There are quite a lot of people who like to combine the best of both worlds and using Gmail on your iOS-powered device, let it be iPhone or iPad, is just one example. However, the Gmail app for iOS is lacking functionality compared to the Android flavor but there’s an update available in the App Store that tries to close the gap.
Probably the most important addition is Notification Center support with options for banners, alerts and lock screen notifications. You no longer have to open the application to check for e-mails, you can finally be notified if you have one right on your lock screen. Then, there’s persistent login so that your sessions will no longer expire and you can take advantage of alternate sender support with the “send as” function.
