Facebook chat is one of the most popular means around by which to communicate with your friends, so much so that Facebook has released its stand-alone Facebook Messenger app. Today both the iOS and Android versions of the program receive some pretty substantial updates, delivering plenty of new features as well as some much-appreciated bugfixes.
So, what’s new? Conversations can now extend beyond just your own friends, bringing friends of friends into the mix. When you’re sharing photos with someone, you can now include larger pictures than ever, with both pinch-to-zoom and tap-for-full-screen controls letting you see the whole thing.
One of the most useful changes sounds like it’s the new ability to quickly switch back-and-forth between conversations within the app, with pop-up notifications letting you know whenever there’s a new message available in one. Speaking of notifications, one of the bugfixes included in this release aims to make push notifications more reliable. Other changes include faster app load times and brisker in-app navigation. Finally, users can now easily delete individual messages from within a conversation.
Facebook Messenger 1.8 is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play now.
